Product Overview
These instructions are a bit different take on the spiral 8-strand braid and will show you how to braid on a foam disk with fully beaded cords – normally done on a wooden stand called a marudai.
This tutorial is considered an Advanced Beginner to Intermediate project - you should have done a fair bit of Kumihimo with beads to get the most enjoyment from this project. While the braid is an 8 strand round structure, the technique is different and the technique is the focus of this tutorial.
Consider this project as an exercise in creativity. A suggested layout is provided as a guideline for bead choices but is by no means exclusive. Every piece will be different based on the creator's choices. It is a great way to use up beads from other projects or try different beads that you may not have used before. Every one I have ever made or have seen made in classes, has been uniquely beautiful. Create a stunning necklace by mixing all kinds of beads for a very organic, unique and elegant look.
The Bicone Pendants used in these samples are available here. You will also want to have mini bead stopers (not regular ones - they need to be minis) on hand, or you can order them here.
